Jaw Problems

If your Jaw is causing you problems, whether it be the way your teeth bite together, jaw pain or a clicking jaw then it is important to get your Jaw Problems checked out as they could get worse and affect your teeth and gums and even the muscles in your face.

Jaw problems can also lead to facial pain, headaches, migraines, shoulder and neck pain and your jaw may click when you bite and chew. Often this stems from people clenching their jaw or grinding their teeth at night. This eventually leads to the above symptoms. So, if you have any of the above problems we can help you.

In most cases we would recommend a custom mouth guard to protect your teeth from clenching or grinding and will prevent your teeth from wearing down. A mouth guard can also help ease jaw pain by relaxing the muscles as it acts as a barrier.

The cause of jaw problems may also stem from missing teeth or ill-fitting bridges. Both of which can easily be resolved by your dentist at Bromsgrove Dental Clinic.

The important thing is that you come and see us to see as soon as possible so your problem does not become worse over time and require more drastic measures to correct.

Jaw problems can also cause snoring so we can definitely help with that!

How will I know if I grind my teeth at night?

If you wake up every morning with an achy jaw, then it is highly likely that you grind your teeth or clench your jaw.

This maybe due to an overactive mind during sleep or can be caused by stress.

A custom mouth guard will solve the pain from grinding and protect your teeth from wearing away.

I suffer from migraines and headaches, could Jaw Problems cause this?

There is plenty of evidence to suggest that grinding your teeth can cause stress on your jaw, shoulders and neck.

When they get tense the muscles tighten and put pressure on the various nerves that travel to the head and can prevent enough blood and oxygen getting to the brain. This can then cause headaches and migraines.

Reducing stress can help as well as a mouth guard at night time as stress cannot always be avoided.

My jaw clicks and feels like it pops out, should I be worried?

This can be a result of jaw clenching, biting your nails, biting your lip and even chewing gum too often. If these habits are stopped, the clicking could stop too.

You may also have an overbite which could cause Jaw Clicking, these can often be helped with Orthodontic treatment.

Please get in touch with your so we can asses your Jaw Problems and advise the best course of action.

X-rays

Depending on the need, your dentist may decide to take X-rays.

This will help your dentist to take a closer look at any areas of concern such as; decay, gum disease, or other dental, jaw or other oral problems. As X-rays emit a small dose of radiation we only use when absolutely necessary.

If you have had any X-rays previously taken by another dentist that you wish to show us, please bring copies when you're visiting your new dentists.
