Need help with your Dentures?

If you have some or all of your teeth missing, one solution is to have a set of Dentures. A Denture (also known as False Teeth) is made from hard-wearing acrylic material that mimics the look of teeth and gums to give your mouth a natural appearance. Your denture will be made to fit snugly against your gums and you will be able to remove it for cleaning.

Dentures have come a long way in terms of their quality and are so well made now that no one will be able to tell the difference. They are also made to fit snuggly so there is no need for denture adhesive.

At Bromsgrove Dental Clinic we use state of the art high impact acrylic to give you a longer lasting, life-like denture. We have the option of using flexible acrylic or chrome to help you get a retentive denture that can withstand chewing forces.

What happens when i first wear dentures?

When you wear a denture for the first time it may get some getting used to when speaking, eating or chewing.

It is important that you take extra care in your hygiene regime so that you can avoid bad breath, tooth decay and gum disease.

The dentist will be able to show you how to best take care of your denture and gums and will tell you about specialised brushes you can use to do this.

Will all my teeth be removed?

That depends if you need a top or bottom denture or both. If only a few teeth need to be removed, then we would recommend a dental implant or dental bridge.

But if most of the teeth cannot be saved then we would remove all the teeth from the top and/or bottom jaw to allow the Denture to fit snuggly to the gum.

In some cases the Denture can be fitted very quickly after tooth removal or you may require a longer period of time to allow for the gum to settle.

Do I need to wear dentures at night?

When you first wear your dentures, it is recommended that you wear them at night so that you get used to them.

Then after a while (as per your dentists’ advice) they can be taken out at night to allow your gums to rest.

It is important they are placed in water to keep them moist just like a normal gum would be inside your mouth.

How do I keep my Dentures clean?

Just like your teeth and gums, your Dentures need to be kept clean. You can purchase suitable toothpastes and solutions specifically designed for cleaning dentures.

You will also need to clean your gums and ensure your Dentures and Gums are free of food deposits which could still cause bad breath and gum disease

Do I still need to visit the Dentist if I don't have real teeth anymore?

Most definitely. It is important you maintain your check ups to ensure your gums are in tip top health and that your dentures are doing their job.

Your dentures will last several years if they are looked after but your jawbone and gum will naturally shrink so your dentures may loosen over time so get in touch when this happens.

Also book an appointment if you have any problems such as uncomfortable dentures, your have signs of gum disease, they are loose, or they click when you talk.
