A Dental Filling is used to restore teeth damaged by tooth decay. Tooth decay often causes small or large cavities that trap food and cause further decay. They also cause pain as they affect the tooth root and nerves.
Your dentist will clean out any decay within the tooth and then fill the tooth with either amalgam or white composite. Effectively filling the hole and protecting the tooth from further bacteria and decay and eradicating pain.
At Bromsgrove Dental we use White Composite Dental Fillings as we feel this is best suited to all patients and is the most aesthetically pleasing as no one would know they were there.
They are made from ceramic and powdered glass which is then added to a resin base. It is also tooth coloured and very hard wearing.
If you notice any discolouration at the centre of the tooth and you are suffering with sharp pains inside the tooth, then it is likely you have a cavity.
However only your Dentist will know if a filling is required. Often the tooth can be cleaned, and a clear coating can be used to protect any finite holes.
Of course, these can be carefully removed from the tooth, cleaned out and replaced with a Tooth Coloured Composite.
